Your grammar says something about you as a professional. Like it or not, people judge you, determine whether to trust you, and decide whether to do business with you based on your emails--and even your texts.

Most of us are likely to quickly text and forego proofreading. Did you mean "hot" or "not"? Did you mean "had" or "and"? How many times are you texting back to correct something because you hit "send" too quickly.

Many are quick to forgive the occasional typo or annoying incorrect auto-correct. Unfortunately, as many are likely to judge your writing harshly.  People from the South can say they "reckon" anything. But write it in your email, and you'll get backlash.

In the last 24 hours, I've heard two clients criticize that someone didn't know the difference between it's and its.  (It's not that difficult: "it's" means "it is." "Its" is the possessive of "it." "Its'" is not a word.)

So turn your spellcheck on -- and your grammar check if you want to catch mix-ups of tricky twins such as "your" and "you're," "there" and "their," and "accept" and "except."

Don't let a typo or misused word cost you a job, a sale, or a relationship!
